THE EXHIBITION
 From September 22nd to November 12th, 2004 the Circleculture Gallery  will be presenting "Beautiful Losers", an art exhibition which has already travelled to a variety of museums in the United States. This show is one-of-a-kind: The curators Aaron Rose and Christian Strike have managed to bring together some of the most significant American artists for the first time and present them to a wide audience. Now, the silkscreen prints of this grand collection are coming to Europe -  to Berlin.
THE ARTISTS
They have all emanated from American urban street culture, loosely tied to the subcultures of skateboarding, graffiti, punk and hip-hop. It is this group of artists, which moves young America like no other: fine arts, the fashion and music industry, literature, cinema and sports have been strongly influenced. What started as a youth  movement, has developed to a social phenomenon. The artists have stopped solely using public space, like walls or the subway system,  as their canvas. Today they sell works to established collectors and design products for brands such as Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and  Nike. They are the descendents of Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat  and Keith Haring, borne from the avant-garde urban scene, now established artists.

THE CURATORS
Beautiful Losers is curated by Christian Strike and Aaron Rose. In  2002 they founded Iconoclast which is a project-based studio working  in collaboration with artists and institutions to produce a wide  variety of multi-media endeavors. Iconoclast specializes in the  development, planning and execution of art-based projects that relate  to both the avant-garde and popular culture. Blurring the lines  between high and low culture, Iconoclast produces exhibitions,  publications, artists, editions and more, that are not only  intelligent and thought provoking, but accessible to large audiences  as well. Iconoclast produced its first large-scale museum exhibition  titled "Beautiful Losers", which opened at the Contemporary Art  Center (CAC) in Cincinnati, Ohio in March 2004. The exhibition will  travel worldwide through 2007.
